Studying abroad is an opportunity to experience different design cultures, methods and educational environments while continuing your academic path at Politecnico di Milano.

The School of Design collaborates with more than 200 design universities worldwide through Erasmus+ agreements in Europe and bilateral agreements with institutions outside Europe. Students can attend courses and take exams at a partner university, with the activities agreed in advance through a Learning Agreement and recognised as part of their degree.

Bachelor of Science

Students in Interaction Design can take part in international exchange programmes offered by the School of Design, choosing among partner universities in Europe and beyond according to the destinations available for the programme.

An exchange allows students to complement the interdisciplinary education received in Lecco with different approaches to interaction design, digital technologies and project-based learning. Courses taken abroad are selected together with the academic mobility coordinator to ensure their coherence with the study plan and their recognition upon return.

Mobility opportunities and available destinations are defined through the annual International Mobility Call.

Master of Science

International mobility is an integral opportunity within the MSc in Digital and Interaction Design. Students can study at partner design universities through Erasmus+ exchanges within Europe or bilateral agreements with institutions outside Europe, integrating courses taken abroad into their individual study path.

Students coming directly from the BSc in Interaction Design at Politecnico di Milano may undertake mobility already in the second semester of the first year. For all other students, mobility can take place during either semester of the second year.

The MSc also offers opportunities for international professional experience through Erasmus+ for Traineeship. An internship abroad can replace the mandatory internship included in the study plan, allowing students to combine professional practice with an international experience.

MEDes – Master of European Design

MEDes is an international study pathway connecting Politecnico di Milano with a network of leading European design schools. Selected students spend two academic years abroad at two different partner institutions: one during the third year of the Bachelor’s degree and one during the first year of the Master’s degree.

The programme allows students to experience three different design education systems, approaches and cultural contexts while remaining part of a shared international community. Participants also take part in activities organised across the MEDes network, including the annual workshop bringing together students and faculty from the partner schools.
