Smart wearable technologies are becoming increasingly relevant across fields such as healthcare, wellbeing, immersive experiences and social interaction. Their development requires designers to connect an understanding of people and contexts with knowledge of sensing technologies, connected systems and new forms of interaction.
Through this interdisciplinary programme, Digital and Interaction Design students can complement their MSc studies with specialised skills in smart wearables. They collaborate with students from other study programmes and with professionals from different fields, combining design, engineering and specialist expertise.
Through project-based activities, participants research, prototype and evaluate wearable products and services addressing real contexts and emerging applications.
The qualification related to the Interdisciplinary Programme in Smart Wearable Technologies is included in the student’s Diploma Supplement upon completion of the programme.
The programme was developed in collaboration with EssilorLuxottica and the Smart Eyewear Lab.
Programme Structure
The Interdisciplinary Programme in Smart Wearable Technologies consists of 30 ECTS integrated into the standard 120 ECTS of the MSc in Digital and Interaction Design. Students complete a dedicated combination of courses and project activities focused on wearable technologies, while continuing to fulfil the requirements of the MSc without extending its standard duration.
The pathway brings together interaction design, user research, prototyping and evaluation with knowledge of sensing technologies, connected systems and wearable applications. Students work with peers from seven other study programmes, developing multidisciplinary projects that combine design, engineering and specialist expertise.
